Just a quick note from Nebraska. Today marks day six of our ten day, thirty town "Countdown to Change Tour." The days are ticking down and my truck is filling up with messages from voters all over Nebraska expressing the kind of change they want to see out of Washington.
Join me below for some more stories and a quick video from our recent travels.
The stories I've heard have reminded me what this election is all about. Here's a quick video from our visit to Alma, a small town in South Central Nebraska:
"Angry and hopeful." That's the message I hear from every corner of this state. Voters are angry that Washington's gone so far off track, but hopeful that they can help set a new course.
One of my last stops for the day will be in a town that has every right to be angry. De Witt, Nebraska has been the home of Vise Grip tools ever since they were invented by a local blacksmith in 1924. Today, Newell Rubbermaid will officially close down a factory that employs nearly half of De Witt's population. Production will be shipped overseas to China, leaving workers to fend for themselves.
Yes, De Witt has every reason to be angry. But they also have great reasons to be hopeful. This is a community that managed to build a world-renowned operation out of nothing. They've seen what can happen when neighbors help neighbors... they know what "Nebraska values" really mean.
All they need is a leadership in Washington willing to serve them as well as they've served their community. And that's what this campaign is about.
On the hood of my truck I've written my ten commitments to every Nebraskan. Among them, the pledge that the very first bill I introduce will eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas and use the savings to invest in new jobs and opportunities right here at home. Those are the values, those are the priorities, that Nebraskans deserve from their leaders.
Please, help me spread that message in these final four days. You can contribute through our website here, or donate through Orange to Blue if you prefer.
Thank you so much again, and talk to you soon.
